For the academic year 2023-24, the Working Group convenors decided to try something new. We wanted a space to discuss topics that interested us in historical research and beyond, but without making it as formal as one of the external or internal sessions. That’s how we came up with the Bring Your Own Book coffee sessions. Once a month, anyone who wanted to join met for coffee in Villa Salviati and brought along a book that they were currently reading or had just finished reading. During the sessions, each person spent a few minutes presenting their book, telling us why they did or did not like it, and answering questions from the other participants. From October 2023 to June 2024, we ran 9 BYOB coffees and learned about over 40 books, between research monographs, novels, journalistic investigations, and more. Below are some of the books the participants brought along this year.
